BRUGAL ANEJO RUM  -  Notes: All bottles of Brugal rum come encased in a thin braided and crosshatched yellow rope, which gives it a unique and appropriate touch of class. It pours with fair weight and has a medium amber color. The nose has an overtone of enamel and is rich with caramel, molasses, and maybe a touch of butterscotch, which are all identified in the flavor. The bite is very present when sipped neat but somewhat softened when on ice, which releases a faint buttery taste. It's a little too dry, but overall this is a good rum. It can be enjoyed on the rocks or mixed with coke or other liqueurs. Brugal Añejo is better than most commonly found golds, and is decently-priced rum that's well worth looking for.  -  $19.95
Caravella Lemoncella  -  Limoncello's popularity stems from both its simplicity and its heritage. Made from three basic ingredients lemon, sugar and pure alcohol it captures the spirit of the Italian lifestyle in a glass. Visitors to Italy will tell you about the abundance of lemon groves that trail down the Amalfi Coast, wrapping around towns such as Capri and Sorrento. This is where the limoncello tradition was born.  -  $21.95
Crystal Head Vodka  -  Crystal Head is familiar-tasting, 80 proof, and hardly earth-shattering in its composition, but overall very good. There’s an immediate vanilla punch that reminded me of the recently-reviewed 2 Rooz vodka. A bit chalky on the palate, it goes down extremely smoothly, with some sweetness and candy-like flavors on the tongue that immediately make one think of both dessert and ghosts. The finish is clean and crisp. There’s no medicinal flavor here at all. Really impressive.  -  $49.95
ESPOLON BLANCO OR REPOSADO  -  Unmistakably flavorful, Reposados (rested tequilas), enjoy a process of “resting” or aging in oak barrels. The resting periods for a Reposado Tequila’s are from two to twelve months. Reposado tequilas are intense spirits with subtle hints of exotic fruits, agave and slight wood aromas. Enjoy them straight up or in Margaritas.  -  $24.95
Hangar One Vodka  -  First, Hangar One is a pot-distilled vodka using wine from excellent viognier grapes, which is a very expensive thing to do. This is lovely stuff - soft, aromatic, and unbelievably smooth. Next, it is blended with viognier wine vodka into well-made column-still wheat vodka.  -  $34.05
OHIO'S NEW LIQUOR ADDITIONS  -  JULY 2010  -  $0.00
Sazerac Rye  -  In what seems to be a company tradition (and a refreshing one), the price of ths whiskey is nowhere near the kind of money the competition would charge for similar quality if they could match it - it is much less.  -  $27.70
Yamazaki Scotch  -  Like many others in the world of food and drink, the word Scotch is protected: it may only be applied to whisky that is distilled within the borders of Scotland. Of course, you could use the same recipe and distill your brew somewhere else in the world, but you couldn't call the results "Scotch." You could, however, call it "whisky" or even "single malt whisky" (assuming it meets the criteria defining a single malt). If you're from Japan, you'll probably call it The Yamazaki. The pour: The Yamazaki pours up a clear golden amber, similar in color and clarity to the lighter single malts I associate with the Highlands, such as Oban and Glenmorangie. The addition of a wee dram of cold water clouds the liquid the slightest bit, releasing a tantalizing floral aroma with hints of vanilla and almond.  -  $44.95

Robert Parker: 95 points for Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino, "first-class Sangiovese from Montalcino" My father and I were very happy to receive news of the scores and reviews from the Robert Parker's Wine Advocate today.
